Ruth Francis

Ruth Francis, 87, of Columbus, GA passed away Sunday, December 04, 2016 at Magnolia Manor West in Columbus, GA.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, December 10, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST with CH (Maj) Ret. Sandy McLean officiating.  The interment will conclude the service at Evergreen Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 A.M. EST.  

Mrs. Francis was born August 25, 1929 in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Gerald Thomas and Edith King Stevens.  She was a member of First Methodist Church in Stamford, CT.  She attended Alpha Academy, Kingston Jamaica, where she completed 6th form.  She worked as an international telephone operator for the Jamaica Telephone Company before migrating to the United States, where she went to work for Southern New England Telephone Company in numerous capacities until she retired in 1996.  She was an avid reader of love novels and enjoyed word puzzles.  She also liked to travel.  The positions she held were charitable, religious, fraternal, political and other affiliations.    

Ms. Francis is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her loving spouse, Eric Francis of Stamford, CT; a daughter, Faith McNeill of Bridgeport, CT; a son, Trevor Johnson, his wife, Olive, and daughter, Faith, of Columbus, GA; two sisters:  Viola Brewster of New Rochelle, NY and Pauline Waterman (Waldo) of Manhattan, NY; three grandchildren:  Tomeka Johnson, Andre Johnson  and Daniel McNeill; one great grandchildren, Ajani Laws; one niece, Barbra Brewster; and nephews:  Silvano and Brenton Brewster, sisters in law; Monica and Norma, dear cousin Norma, aunts; Joyce, Phyliss and Chichi.
