Ruth Edna Jones Sims, 86, of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 20, 2021, at her residence, while surrounded by her family.
Ruth Edna Sims was born February 18, 1935 as the 11th child of Rev. R K Jones and Leila Mae Jones. She was born in Florala, Alabama, but lived most of her childhood and all of her married life in Phenix City, Alabama. In 1955, Ruth Edna married the love of her life, her childhood sweetheart, Malcom Sims. Among her many accomplishments, she was a homemaker, a seamstress, and a talented pianist/organist. Ruth Edna served the church in various ways, including playing for congregations from the time she was a young girl until recent years. She lived her life for the Lord and pointed to Him in both big and small ways at all times. Because of this love for the Lord, she believed it was her greatest joy to work beside her husband as a true companion and helpmate.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Sims will be held at 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 U.S. Highway 431 North Phenix City, AL 36867, with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers; four sisters; oldest son, Malcom Fred Sims, Sr., and his wife, Sue Sims; her granddaughter, Jamin Ingram Martin; and great grandson, Nathanael Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years; children, Susan (Keith) Ingram, Jill (Mike) Boyette, Tyler (Ruth) Sims, Leila (Tim) Allen, and Matthew (Cathy) Sims; grandchildren, Fred Jr., Hannah, Rachel, Seth, Elisabeth, Danielle, Ty, Barak, Mollie, Joah, Emily, Katie, and Ansley; 21 great grandchildren; three sisters, Matred Perdue, Lois Holt and Martha Hyles; two sisters-in-laws, Jeanette Blanton and Marian Jones; and a wealth of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Columbus Hospice staff and the loving caregivers of Home Instead.
She is the epitome of the Virtuous Woman referred to in Proverbs 31 and indeed her children rise up and call her blessed, blessed, blessed.
