Samuel “Sammy” Strickland, 52, of Salem, Alabama, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at his residence.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM EST on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home 3738 Highway 431 N Phenix City, AL, with Pastor David Wilson and Rev. Boyd Cochran officiating. The family will receive friends an hour and half prior to the service beginning at 1:30. The family will have a private interment at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Serving as Honorary Pall Bearers are Jason Mitchell, Marc Sansbury, Richard Kelly IV, Jason Moran, Joey Endres and Derek DeLucca.
Sammy was born in Opelika, AL, the son of Joe Thomas Strickland and Ruby Pearl Strickland. He graduated from Central High School/Vocational School, learning the skill of welding. Sammy worked for and later retired from Uniroyal as a Tire Builder. Sammy was married to the love of his life Joanne Kelly Strickland for over 26 years. He devoted his life to his family, always being there for his son Chad Strickland with all his many sporting involvements. Sammy supported and was present for every event in Chad’s life, including traveling to Chad’s college football games at Eastern Illinois University. Sammy was also a long time member of TheWay Church in Smiths Station.
Sammy is survived by his loving wife Joanne and son Chad Strickland; his parents Joe and Ruby Strickland; sister Dianne Strickland; mother-in-law Rita Kelly; brother-in-law Rick Kelly and his wife Natalie; several nieces and nephews, caring friends and his church family.
