Sara Jean Smith

Sara Jean Smith, 75, of Box Springs, Georgia passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in her home.  Funeral Service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA  on Monday, August 20, 2018 beginning at 12:00 Noon EST, with Pastor Lynn McManious officiating.  The interment will conclude the service at the Fort Mitchell Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 4:00P.M. until 6:00 P.M. EST.  

Sara Jean Smith was born June 26, 1943 in Ariton, Alabama to Raymond “Buck” Sutton and Lucille Augusta.  Sara was a devoted member of the Geneva Baptist Church.  Sara was retired from Columbus Carpet Mill after 10 years.  Sara’s children were honored to have her as their mother.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be forever missed.

Other than her parents, Sara is predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Cecil D. Smith, her brother, Frederick Childs, and her sister Annie Mildred Burr.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra Swindall and husband, Gary, of Box Springs, GA; Heidi Gebbie and husband, Mark, of Sturgis, SD; Wendy Smith Edgecomb of Mableton, GA; sons Robert “Bo” Smith of Columbus, GA; Raymond Smith and wife, Olivia, of Haughton, LA; Gregory Smith and wife, Sherry, of Box Springs, GA; sisters Shairee Dorrill and husband Donnie of Brundidge, AL; Christine Carroll and husband Durwood of Ariton, AL.  Sara is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. 

Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home, and those choosing may make a contribution to Wreaths Across America (Veterans Christmas wreath program).
