Sara Nichols

Sara Harrison Nichols, 91, of Phenix City, AL, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2015, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm EST, on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Vance Memorial Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior. A private burial will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Nichols was born October 1, 1924 to the late John T. and Bertha Harden Harrison in Phenix City, AL. She spent her life dedicated to God, family and the Phenix City community. The family was a large part of Porter Memorial Baptist church for many years, Bill, her husband serving as choir director and Sara singing alto in the choir. She served the Phenix City Board of Education in numerous rolls covering daily contact with students to handling payroll for many years. Many of her “office girls” were invited home for sleep overs through those years. Travel and camping were often part of family life. A great memory, after retirement, included an extended trip out west to visit family with Sara as navigator.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband William Frank “Bill” Nichols, son Chris Nichols and two brothers, Arthur Harrison and Howard Harrison.

She is survived by her children, a daughter Beth Glen, husband Rod of Phenix City, AL; son, Gary Nichols, wife Sherry of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Nichols of Tuscaloosa, AL; sisterBetty Shelby of Macon, GA; 9 grandchildren, Tully Lightsey, Maggie Reaville, Silas Nichols, Holly Nichols, Sarah Kate Neunzig, Shannon House, Scott Nichols, Christi Nichols and Tannahill Keymer; 15 great grandchildren; caregivers, Pam Ogle, Patricia Williams, Teresa Williams and many others; much extended family members and many caring friends.
