SFC (Ret) Jack R. Adkins, age 72, resident of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama on Monday, December 28, 2020, 1 p.m. with Reverend Ronnie Cheney officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
SFC Adkins, son of the late John Adkins and Bertha Gay Clark Adkins, was born June 12, 1948 in Lybul, West Virginia. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably for over 24 years. During his distinguished military career he served three tours of duty in Vietnam and he was awarded the Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal w/2 OLC; Purple Heart 2nd award; Army Achievement Medal 1st OLC; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4 service stars; Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation; numerous other medals and ribbons.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Gorlene, Loran and Carlene.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dominga Adkins; three sons, Jack D. Adkins, Jon Adkins and J. C. Adkins; a brother, John Mitchell Adkins; two sisters, Joyce and Ruby; seven grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
