Sfc (Ret) James Martin Thomas

James Martin Thomas, 87, of Cusseta, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown. Graveside services will be held at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Cusseta, GA on Friday, April 9, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kenneth Van Horn officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, April 9, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks will be required.

James was born on September 20, 1933 in Whitesburg, KY to the late Watson Thomas and Myrtle Hatton Thomas. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country honorably, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Other than his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Profitt Thomas; daughter, Darlene Thomas; son, Jimmy Thomas; sister, Mary Lou Thomas; and brother, Harlan Jessie Thomas.

Survivors include his sister, Alice Fay Thomas; brothers, Roscoe Luther Thomas, John L. Thomas, Raymond Thomas, Walter Thomas; grandchildren, Jarrod Thomas, Sam Bell, Jamie Candill; and many nieces and nephews.
