SFC Retired Bennie “Ben” Neal McArdle, 80, of Salem, AL passed away early Monday morning, June 12, 2023, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am EDT on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Chaplain Thomas Waynick officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Ben was born June 2, 1943, in Haleburg, AL, son of the late Hubit McArdle and Viola Johnson McArdle. He had served our country honorably in the United States Army for 20 years and was retired. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded numerous medals and ribbons for his bravery during combat. After his retirement, he attended and was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, IL where he served as a mortician and a trade embalmer for several funeral homes. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing golf, tending his vegetable garden, and watching the Alabama Crimson Tide during football season. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and sharing precious memories will all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was Lutheran by faith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Parker, Jean Faulk, Agnes Smith, and Delaine Jamieson, and two brothers, Ken McArdle, and Thurman McArdle.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Carol Lynne Burandt McArdle; his children, Donna Osborn, Angie Viggins and husband Johnnie, Sheri McArdle, Michael McArdle, and Jody McArdle and wife Leslie; one sister, Odessa McArdle; brother, Ronnie McArdle and wife Mardelle; eleven grandchildren, Charlie Grimes, Jamie Osborn and wife Polly, Candice Williams and husband Jason, Sara Robertson, Seth Robertson and wife Sheila, Chance McArdle, Sydney Conner, Jackson Conner, Emilee McArdle, Tyler Little, and Olivia McArdle; twelve precious great-grandchildren, Emma, Selena, Angel, Liam, Micah, Lydia, Reagan, Kindall, Skylar, Koraline, Luna, and Jonah; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
