SFC (Retired) Ray Eugene Carter, 86, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
A celebration of life graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 am EDT on Thursday April 19, 2018 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with full Military Honors with Rev. Skip Speed officiating. The family will receive friends at the memorial service and everyone is invited to meet at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City by 10:15 am EDT on Thursday to leave in procession by 10:30 am EDT to Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born December 16, 1931 in Bonifay, FL to the late Lloyd Carter and Carie Forehand Carter. He served our country proudly serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was retired from the United States Army. After retirement, he served as a police officer with Daleville City Police Department in Daleville, AL. He was a Mason and a member of Williams Wilson Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, woodworking, and spending quality time with all his family. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Margaret Ann White Carter of Phenix City, AL, three daughters, Judy Daniels of Austin, TX, Janie Barber and husband Stephen of Phenix City, AL, and JoAnne Thomas and husband Mark of Smiths Station, AL, (5) grandchildren, Sophia M. Martinez, Shay Daniels, Casey Lipton (David), Jacob Thomas, and Austin Thomas, (6) great grandchildren, Bradley, Kayla, Hayley, Isabella, Michael, and Elizabeth, a host of extended loving family members, church family, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Kindred Hospice.
