SFC (Retired) Robert Dale “Bob” Bennett, 85, of Columbus, GA passed away early Sunday morning, June 14, 2015 in the comfort of his home. Funeral services will held 10:00 am EDT Wednesday morning, June 17, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Daniel Jones officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home. Mr. Bennett was born August 28, 1929 in Winterset, IA, son of the late Ray Bennett and Golda Pratt Bennett. He was retired from Jay Auto Group with 20 plus years of Service. He also proudly served our country in the United States Army where he trained and handled scout dogs. He retired as Sergeant First Class (SFC) after serving 21 years. He was a devoted husband, father and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He loved to fellowship with his friends, outdoor activities, gardening, helping family, friends, and neighbors with repair and servicing needs of their automobiles, Gospel Music, Men's Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast, and he was a member of Veterans Parkway Baptist Church. Other than his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Frances “Sherrill” Lansdon Bennett, one sister, Maxine Fitzgerald, and three brothers, Claire Bennett, Donald Bennett, and Chuck Bennett. He is survived by three daughters, Sherlene Griffith Dyes and Del Fladung of Smiths Station, AL, Karon Griffith Henderson and husband Skip of Columbus, GA; and Jenifer Bennett McLendon and husband Andy of Smiths Station, AL, two brothers, Fred Bennett of Dillager, MN, and Lewis Bennett of Cave Creek, AZ; (6) grandchildren, Melissa Willums (Chris); Amanda Kyle Bennett (Cole); Joseph Berry Henderson; Robert Drake McManus; Chad Hunter McManus; and Andrew Bennett McLendon; (3) great grandchildren, Orian Blaise Wood, Audrey Brooke Kittrell, and Kasen Eli McManus, numerous other loving family members and many friends.
