SGM (Retired) Carol H. “Mac” McDonald, 82, of Crawford, AL passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home in Crawford. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Steve Williamson officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home. Mr. McDonald was born December 30, 1932 in Pontotoc, MS to the late James Elzie McDonald, Sr. and Marie Davidson McDonald. He proudly served our country as a Soldier of the United States Army with 30 years of service. Mac served during the Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam War where he received numerous awards, medals, and accommodations. He was a member of the American Legion Post 135, and the VFW 5228. He enjoyed camping, traveling, wood working, and tinkering with any type of gadgets and electronics. Mr. McDonald was a member of Crawford Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Plunk, Geraldine Russell, and LaRue Moore, a daughter-in-law, Cheryl McDonald, and a granddaughter, Sarah Lindsey Pittman. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Dorothy M. Aron McDonald of Crawford, AL, one daughter, Kathy Pittman and husband Buddy of Salem, AL, one son, Bruce McDonald and wife Cherrell of Fortson, GA, two sisters, Opal Self and husband Laron and Joyce McDonald, both of Pontotoc, MS; three brothers, James Elzie McDonald, Jr. and wife Mary of Clarksdale, MS, Kenneth McDonald of Ozark, AL, and Okee McDonald of Pontotoc, MS; (4) grandchildren, Brooke Miles (Ben), Kelly Borders (Jack), Brantley Pittman, and Brock Pittman; (2) great grandchildren, Katie Miles and Grace Borders; brother-in-law, Lake Russell, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends; online condolences may be made at www.vancememorialchapel.net In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Crawford Baptist Church Building Fund.
