Phenix City, AL- Sgt. Major retired Jessie Remanyi Parker, Jr. 89 of Phenix City, AL passed away on January 2, 2015 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 11am EST on Monday January 5, 2015 at Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City with Rev. Robb Goodman and Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 3-5pm EST at Vance Memorial Chapel. Serving as Pallbearers are Ken Smith, Dan Harris, Scott Smith, Ryan Smith, Johnny Sanders, Travis Dukes Sr. and Travis Dukes Jr. The men's Adult II Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Remanyi was born on January 21, 1925 in Phenix City Al and was the son of the late Jessie Remanyi Parker Sr., Eunice Ray Parker and Dannie B Parker. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Sara H. Parker, his son Sonny Parker and his brother Harold Smith. He is survived by his daughters Anne Tolbert (Jim) of Charlottesville VA and Patti Cullen (George) of Midland GA; brothers Jack Smith (Annelle) of Birmingham AL, Rev. Joel Smith of Phenix City AL and sister Laree Harris (Pete) of Phenix City AL; grandchildren Sean Parker (Mollie), Callie Tolbert, J.R. Tolbert (Mary) and Shea Parker; great grandchildren Andrew Parker, Murphy Parker and Travis Dukes Jr.; brothers-in-Law John Sanders and Harris Henderson; and much extended loving family, church family and friends.

He was a 1944 graduate of Central High School. Immediately following graduation he began a thirty year career in the U.S. Army including tours of duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam where he received numerous medals including the Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star. After his retirement from the Army he began another career with Total Systems Services, Inc. of Columbus GA retiring after 15 years of service with them. In addition to his careers he was a devoted member of Summerville Baptist Church serving in many capacities and most recently being honored by receiving the title Deacon Emeritus.
