Sherrie Darlene Martin

Sherrie Darlene Martin, 66, of Smiths Station, AL passed away early Friday morning, July 26, 2024, at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, AL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Bud Passmore officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday one hour prior to her service at the funeral home in Phenix City. 

Sherrie was born March 4, 1958, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Alvin B. Martin and Edith “Joan” Bundrick Martin. She was employed with Aflac in Columbus, GA working many years of loyal and faithful service. She enjoyed spending time at home, cooking, nature, listening to country music, and watching the Alabama Crimson Tide. In her high school years, she ran track and played on the high school basketball team. She was a Christian and a member of Concord Baptist Church in Salem.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Sydney Shea Harden Bamberg.

She is survived by her loving and devoted fiancé of 17 years, Jimmy Shelley of Smiths Station, AL; one daughter, Mollie Arnold and husband Dustin of Pelham, AL; son, Rev. Zack Newman and wife Jessie of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sisters, Janice Harden and husband Sid of Salem, AL, and Tammie Wilson and husband Roy of Monroe, LA; six precious grandchildren, Noah, Alli, Eli, Silas, Adaline, and Bennett; her loving mother-in-law to be, Bobbie Dykes Shelley; a very special friend, Amanda Richardson; several nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many caring friends, and her beloved pet dog, Paisley.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the American Cancer Society or Gideon’s International in memory of Sherrie Darlene Martin.
