Mrs. Shirley Jean Simmons Duty, 78, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Choctaw County Nursing Home in Ackerman, MS.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 2nd, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL, with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Shirley was born June 8, 1941, in Russell County, AL. She was a retired school teacher, and a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. She had been a resident of Louisville, MS since 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duty; and her parents, Bertha Sanders and Rube Simmons.
She is survived by her sons, Darrell (Gina) Duty and Dennis (Vickie) Duty, both of Louisville, MS; her goddaughter, Robin Hudson of Phenix City, AL; two brothers, William Simmons of Phenix City, AL and Wallace Simmons of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Nicholas Duty, Cole Duty, Courtney Duty, and Heather Taylor; and two great grandchildren, Liam Hunt and Ella Duty.
