Sibyl Janet Isler Thompson, 84, of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 in the comfort of her home. Funeral services will be held 12:30 pm EDT Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm EDT. Mrs. Thompson was born March 15, 1931 in Troy, AL to the late John Gilbert Isler and Mavis Rebecca Skinner Isler. She was retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Phenix City. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Mrs. Thompson especially enjoyed writing letters and cards of encouragement to her family and friends. She also looked forward each day when the mail carrier came to bring her letters from her friends and family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Eugene Thompson, two brothers, Norman Isler and Bruce Isler, and a grandson, Matthew Daugherty. She is survived by her children, Morgan Wood and wife Roni of Clinton Township, MI, Myra Delay and husband John of Fort Mitchell, AL, Nathan Wood and wife Kathy of Smiths Station, AL, Ronald Wood and wife Mary of Phenix City, AL, and Linda Wood Landeche and husband Todd of Phenix City, AL; (9) grandchildren, Christopher Wood (Rene), John Kelly, Rodney Wood, Jessica Dileonardo (Trey), Dalas Wood, Elizabeth Landeche, Thomas Landeche, Shelley Hall, and Anne Samuel (Terry), (13) great grandchildren, numerous other family members, and many caring friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Valley Rescue Mission in Columbus, GA in memory of Mrs. Sibyl Thompson.
