Solon “Samuel” Morris, Jr., 86, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EST Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Morris was born September 29, 1931 in Lee County, AL to the late Solon Samuel Morris, Sr. and Mary Edna Jackson Morris. He was retired and for most of his life worked as a sheet metal fabricator and welder. He served our country and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, was an auto racing enthusiast, loved watching football and enjoyed playing chess. He was a Baptist by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Juanita “Nita” Ingram Morris, and five siblings, Vernon J. Morris, David Conrad Morris, Sr., Sarah Ethridge, Aurelia Booth, and Gordon E. Morris.
He is survived by three sons, Robert E. Morris and wife Mary, Clinton Morris and wife Robin and Samuel Charles Morris and wife Angie, sister, Eva Gray, brother, Clinton Errol Morris, Sr. and wife Atsuko; (7) grandchildren, Christina Sikes (Tracy), Amber Morris, Josh Kennington, Jenna Van Dyke (Otis), Jake Morris, Ryan Morris (Margo), and Tyler Morris, (9) great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Columbus Hospice House or Columbus Regional Medical Foundation.
