Ssg (Ret.) James Billy Withers

SSG (Ret.) James Billy Withers, 86, of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday, March 01, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, March 07, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST.  The interment will conclude the service at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. EST.  The family will receive friends Sunday, March 06, 2016 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.  

James was born December 6, 1929 in Winchester, KY to the parents of the late Hargett and Hattie Withers.  He was a Veteran who served proudly in the Korean War.  He was a funny and loving man, who enjoyed having fun, laughing, baseball, and hiking.  He was also a Mason.

Other than his parents, James is predeceased by brothers:  Gary Withers, Dennis Withers and Jr. Withers; sisters:  Christina Abbott and Janetta Sapp; and a grandson, Christopher Murphy.

Survivors include his spouse, Laquita Withers; a step daughter, Latrice Gault of Atlanta, GA, a step son, Lashan McGee of Columbus, GA; sisters:  Faye Brock (late husband, Elza) of Hamilton, OH, Barbara Gray (Dennis) of Hamilton, OH, and Linda Kingsley (Curly) of Jacksonville, FL; and one brother, Leon Withers of Hamilton, OH.
