Steven Jerome Dowdney

Steven Jerome Dowdney, 61, of Columbus, GA passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Sunday, February 21, 2021 beginning at 2:00 pm with Rev. Travis Rigsby officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks will be required.

Steven was born and raised in Columbus, GA. He graduated from Hardaway High School and played baseball throughout his childhood. Steven was a lifelong construction worker and built many, many houses in and outside of Columbus. He was a good-hearted man who loved his work and his family. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

Other than his mother, Virginia Carolyn Dowdney Collett, Steven is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rhonda Dowdney; daughters, Magen Dowdney and Brittany Dowdney; stepchildren, Brian Griggs and Christy McKillip (Mike); brothers, Victor D. Dowdney and William Kenneth Dowdney; and grandchildren, Tyler Danford, Ashley McKillip, Jayden Danford, Hailey McKillip, Kenny McKillip, Triston Crowell and Mackenzie McKillip. Steven is preceded in death by his father, William H. Dowdney.
