Thomas Fletcher Boswell, Jr., 71, of Phenix City, AL passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Summerville Baptist Church, 3500 Summerville Rd, Phenix City, AL according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. A private interment will follow the service. Due to the election Tuesday, the family has decided to receive friends Monday, July 13, 2020, evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Boswell was born July 4, 1949 in Columbus, GA son of the late Thomas Fletcher Boswell, Sr. and Dorothy Poole Boswell. After graduating from Auburn University, he began teaching in the Phenix City School System. However, his passion soon would become law enforcement, where he spent over 40 years of his career. Mr. Boswell retired in 2011 having served as Sheriff of Russell County for 21 years. During his tenure as sheriff, he served as the President of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association in 1998, he established the Thomas F. Boswell Training Facility and was chosen to lead the Statewide Criminal Justice Information Commission. Additionally, he served as the President of the Russell County Historical Commission.
He is survived by his loving wife Debroah Eason Boswell of Phenix City, AL; a daughter, Jennifer Boswell Quillope and husband Chris of Auburn, AL; a son, Dr. John Andrew Boswell and wife Kimberly of Valdosta, GA; a brother, Bruce Boswell of Phenix City, AL; seven, grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Hannah-Grace, Isaac, Mackenzie, Katie and Tucker; several other extended family and friends.
