Thomas Jay Cravens, 77, of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday, September 07, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Thursday, September 14, 2017 beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST.  The interment will conclude the service at Parkhill Cemetery  The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.  

Mr. Cravens was born September 6, 1940 in Paris, IL to the late Forest Benjamin Cravens and Frances Ellen Justice Cravens.  He was a member of Spirit of God Fellowship. He retired from the city of Columbus Metra Transit with thirty-six years of service, where he began as a bus driver and was promoted to supervisor and eventually retiring as a Director.

Mr. Cravens enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching birds and squirrels, fishing and gardening.  He also enjoyed watching the history channel and westerns.

Other than his parents, Mr. Cravens is predeceased by three brothers:  Benny Cravens, Terry Ray Cravens and Jerry Cravens; one great grandchild, Conner Dean.

Survivors include his loving spouse of fifty-seven years, Linda Jones Cravens; two daughters:  Lavonda Cravens (Wally) and Melissa Cheung (Steve), both of Columbus, GA; one sister:  Joyce Switzer (David) of Marshall, IL; five grandchildren:  Maria McMillan (Christopher), Christian Iddings (Charles), Darrell Dean, Brandon Cheung and Stephanie Cheung, all of Columbus, GA; and five great grandchildren:  Rachael, Dameon and Kylee Iddings, Jamie Dean and Skyler Collum. .
