Thomas Michael "Mike" Stumhofer, Sr., a devoted family man and friend, peacefully passed away at his home in Phenix City, Alabama, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the age of 81.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama, with Rev. Ed Kvietkus officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (EST), one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Born on October 29, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late John Frank Stumhofer and Jessie Schaffner Stumhofer, Mike moved to Columbus, Georgia at the age of ten years old and attended St. Anne School until the 8th grade. Mike graduated from Columbus High School, where he was 2nd Team All Bi-City Football. He was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia, where his lifelong love for the Georgia Bulldogs began. After earning his degree in zoology, he started his career as a teacher in Atlanta, where he met his wife, Anne. They moved back to Columbus, and Mike dedicated over 30 years to serving as a social worker with the State of Georgia.
An avid sports enthusiast, Mike found joy in cheering on his favorite teams, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Hawks. He also loved classic rock music, finding joy in the small things of life, and a good joke (even at the expense of himself). Above all else, Mike adored his family and treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and his loving wife of 51 years, Anne Snyder Stumhofer.
Mike was a man of faith and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. He had a unique ability to make those around him feel comfortable, and he was able to make friends with people of every walk of life. His sense of humor and consistent, stable presence in the family will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Stumhofer.
Left to honor his memory are his beloved wife, Anne; his two daughters, Elizabeth Keen and husband Scott and Jessica Medley and husband John; his two sons, Michael Stumhofer and wife Peggy and Frank Stumhofer; his siblings, Joan Skalski and husband Valentine, Pat Stumhofer, and Richard Stumhofer and wife Destiny; and his adored grandchildren, Katie, Annabelle, Caroline, Emily, Jax, Brayden, and Madeline. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Mike's life was a testament to the beauty of love, family, and faith. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike's honor to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org or the Valley Rescue Mission at http://www.valleyrescuemission.org.
