Tillman Demelle Smith

Tillman Demelle Smith of Smiths, Alabama, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA with Reverend Ricky Ward officiating. The interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Vance Brooks Funeral Home. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks will be required.

Tillman was born on June 19, 1951 in Columbus, GA. He was the son of Charles and Betty Joyce Smith. Tillman is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Joyce Smith and his daughter, Gail Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandy Smith; daughter, Stephanie (Don) Brown; father, Charles (Helga) Smith; three sisters, Donna (Larry) Thompson, Judy Anderson, and Pam Silva; brother, Hank (Marcia) Smith; grandson, Tyler (Samantha) Brown; granddaughter, Hannah (Nolen) Ryals; great-granddaughter, Gemma Gail Brown; as well as his beloved dog Wiggins, large extended family, and caring friends.

Tillman worked for years with Smith-Gray Electric and retired from Brown and Son LLC. He was an Industrial Electrician by trade; however his love of music was his passion. He was Free Will Baptist by faith and a Charter member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church, where he enjoyed sharing his musical talents including guitar, piano and singing. Tillman was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather as well as a brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, and helping others. Tillman was a very analytical thinker and loved to share his knowledge by teaching others about history, music and the Bible. Tillman will always be remembered for his honesty, integrity and his willingness to help everyone.
