Tommie Edward Hackney died at his home in Phenix City, AL on May 2, 2016. He was 86 years old.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 2:30 pm EDT on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Watford officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm EDT prior to the service on Thursday at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. The family is asking everyone that would like to attend his service to meet at the funeral by 2:00 pm EDT to leave in procession for Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine Hackney, son Thomas Hackney and wife Joyce of Blacksburg, VA, daughter Lois Murray and husband Frank, of Moncure, NC, son Garlon Hackney and wife Debbie of Pittsboro, NC, daughter Becky Hackney of Chapel Hill, NC, daughter Jacqueline Hackney of Columbus, GA, step-son Kenneth Williams of Phenix City, Al, daughter Annette Williams of Atlanta, GA and son Michael Williams of Phenix City, Al. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Garland and Rosa Hackney, siblings Herbert Brodie Hackney, William Howard Hackney, Raymond Hackney, Lenora Gates and Wilma Ellis; and two sons Gary Hackney and Mike Hackney.
Tommie was born on August 29, 1929 in Chatham County, NC to parents Garland Hackney and Rosa Teague Hackney. Tommie and Rosa moved to Chapel Hill, NC where Tommie spent his childhood. He served in the Army during the 1950’s and after his service to our country he worked in construction.
He will always be remembered as a loving father and kind friend.
