Tony was born September 30, 1956 in Columbus, GA son of Mary Alice Maloy Jernigan and the late James Lamar Jernigan. He was the son of a Master Carpenter who rose to be a Construction Superintendent on numerous public and private projects in this area. One of his crowing achievements was over seeing the construction of the Columbus Museum while in his early 30’s. He was always working on some type of project, either building or improving his home, or work projects. Tony loved gardening, working in his yard, fishing, golfing and Auburn Football. Before he retired he was a great at grilling but not cooking. After retirement he became an accomplished baker and cook. Retirement also brought on another change, he was never a reader, however retirement allowed him the time to begin reading. Something he came to enjoy. He and his family were also long-time members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL. He will always be remembered by his family and friends as a man who never met a stranger and made those he met at ease around him. He has left a legacy of quality work, professional work ethic and attention to detail. He was also a fighter, no matter what life handed him, he kept moving. We will miss him in our daily routine; however, he has left us lasting monuments all around the area for us to enjoy and remember him when we see them.

Mr. Jernigan was preceded in death by his father, James Lamar Jernigan and a brother, Rodney Jernigan.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Alice Maloy Jernigan; his wife of 43 years, Grace Johnson Jernigan, Phenix City, AL; son, Chad D. Jernigan, Phenix City, AL; sister, Kathy Jernigan Hodge (Jimmy); sister-in-law, Sandra Jernigan; nieces, Amanda Hodge (Yancey), Summer Jernigan and Jacie Jernigan; first cousins, Ronny Bryan (Alice), Edna Bryan, Gloria (William) Fuller; several other family members and close friends also survive.
