Troyce Carter

Troyce Johnson Carter passed away on November 11, 2015 at Morningside Assisted Living in Columbus at the age of 96.

A memorial service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road Columbus, GA.  Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. EST. The family will receive friends before the service at 2:00 P.M. EST, at the funeral home. She will be interred with her husband at Resthaven Memorial Gardens on Monday November 16, 2015. Her daughter and husband will be in attendance for prayers and visitation.

Mrs. Carter was born on February 9, 1919 in Walker County Alabama. She was the daughter of Carl and Vonnie Johnson. She received her degree in accounting from Athens College in N. Alabama, and worked as an accountant for several years. She married Charles Edward Carter a WWII Veteran in Atlanta and they settled in DeKalb County, GA, to raise their family. Mrs. Carter received her teaching certificate and taught elementary school there until her retirement in 1981.

Mrs. Carter has always been an active member of the Methodist Church. She was hard working and selfless, raising her daughter after her husband’s death. She was a loving grandmother devoting her time and love to her two grandsons. She also loved gardening and sewing, sharing her vegetables with friends and family and sewing for herself and family.

Shortly before her death she was able to gather with her family and meet her great granddaughter Violet Bonnie Barrow, born August 19, 2015.

Other than her parents Troyce was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Carter of Atlanta; two sisters, Manola Johnson Zellner of Miami FL, and Rovena Johnson Frederick of Montgomery, AL.

Survivors include her daughter Juanita Carter Barrow (Lew); two grandsons, James Lewis Barrow of Columbus, and William Charles Barrow (Claire) of Jackson, TN; great granddaughter, Violet Bonnie Barrow.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mark Methodist Church of Columbus.
