Velma Grace Patterson

Velma Patterson, 76 years old of Monroeville, Alabama passed away on January 22, 2017 in Columbus Georgia.  A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Ave, Columbus, GA on Friday, February 3, 2017 beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST with Pastor John Fugh, Jr. officiating.  Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Ga is in charge of the arrangements.    

Velma was born in Monroeville, Alabama to Elijah Randolph McCurley and Velma Annette Grace on April 24, 1940.  She graduated from Murphy High School.  She then attended Springhill Memorial for her undergraduate studies and went on to receive a master's degree at the University of Alabama.  She worked as a social worker and vocational coordinator for 25 years until her retirement. 

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Nowell of Columbus, GA; a brother, Randy (Janet) McCurley of Mobile, AL ; two sisters:  Judy (Tommy) Dyess of Cantonment, AL and Rose Melton of Mobile, AL; and step children: Christopher Patterson, Phillip Patterson and Benning Patterson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations can be made to Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
