Velma Marie Cook Cooley, 83, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 12:30 pm EST Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Mike Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cooley was born September 19, 1932 in Alligator, Mississippi to the late William H. Cook and Beatrice Parkham Cook. She was retired from Cobb Memorial Hospital with 18 years of service and had work with B W Capps for 10 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, farm life, family, and was a Baptist by faith. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, SFC (Retired) Robert Kenneth Cooley, two sons, Ricky Allen Cooley, and Robert Michael Cooley, and two brothers, William H. Cook, and Thomas M. Cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Nova Cooley Best and husband Gene of Graceville, FL, son, Daniel “Bruce” Cooley of Columbus, GA, two sisters, Jeanette Huggins of Oxford, MS, and Essie Jo Leish of Pearl, MS, daughter-in-law, Sandra Cooley of Smiths Station, AL, (11) grandchildren, (11) great grandchildren and one on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, numerous extended family members, and many caring friends.
