Vickie, daughter of the late Donald Lamar Jenkins and Loria Mae Duncan Jenkins, was born May 15, 1957 in Columbus, Georgia. She worked for Lee County Board of Education for several years and attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Columbus, where she was actively involved in the Women’s Auxiliary and Golden Agers. Vickie lived her life caring for others – being a servant for the Lord. She was an excellent cook, noted for her delicious red velvet cakes. Vickie also enjoyed grilling for the family; fishing; camping; and making floral arrangements for both family and friends. She was an Alabama football fan and was always monitoring the weather where she would keep the family well informed of any weather updates. Vickie always looked forward to having fun, singing, and listening to classic country and Christmas music. The family remembers her as a lady who was always loving and caring towards others; a woman who always held the family together.
Other than her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by her husband, Lavon Prather; and sister-in-law, Terri Jenkins. She is survived by her loving long-time companion, William Knicely of Smiths Station; one daughter, Amy Leatherwood and her husband Brian of Smiths Station; one son, Jeremy Prather and his wife Amie of Smiths Station; three brothers, Wayne Jenkins of Smiths Station, William Jenkins also of Smiths Station; and Todd Jenkins of Phenix City, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Gracey, Kaylin, Sky, Blake, Clay, Blair, Bailey, and Barrett; many other relatives and friends.
Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made to First Freewill Baptist Church, ATTN; Women’s Auxiliary, 952 54th Street, Columbus, Georgia 31904.
