Virginia Jenkins Bass Allen, 92, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EST Monday, September 12, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Chaplain Dean Knipe officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm EST at the funeral home.
Mrs. Allen was born June 26, 1924 in the Dixie Community in Russell County, AL to Johnnie M. Jenkins and Willie Lee Jenkins. She was retired from the Phenix City Board of Education with 20 years of service. She was a member of the Phenix City Shrinettes, a member of the Daughters of the Nile, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #135 where she served as former Chaplain, a member of the Russell County Retiree’s Association, and a member of the Young at Hearts Senior Adults Sunday School Class and a member of Central Baptist Church in Phenix City. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Acie D. Bass of 48 years, and Charles Douglas “Doug” Allen, one sister, Joyce Ramona Stillwell, and a grandson, David Bass.
She is survived by her son, Phil Bass and wife Mary Lewandowski Bass of Phenix City, AL, sister, Diane Horn Brewer and husband Jessie of Opelika, AL, brother-in-law, Joe Stillwell of Phenix City, AL, one granddaughter, Dotsie Bass, and two great grandchildren, Ashley and Stephanie Bass, numerous other loving family members, and many caring friends.
