Virginia Slappey Cannon

January 23, 1933 — March 14, 2016

Virginia Slappey Cannon, 83, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Monday morning, March 14, 2016 in the comfort of her home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm EDT Thursday, march 17, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Rod Hargraves officiating.  Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens.  Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Cannon was born January 23, 1933 in Phenix City, AL to the late William Alfred Slappey, Sr. and Nannie Lou Ray Slappey.  She was retired from Columbus Packaging with 32 years of service.  She was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, exercising, and spending time with all her family.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Nolan Cannon, a son, Robert Albert Dunn, three brothers, George Eugene Slappey, Calvin Slappey and William A. Slappey, Jr., and four sisters, Willie Louise Slappey, Martha Elizabeth Slappey, Mary Ellen Slappey Warner, and Betty Ellen Slappey Fuller.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard “Ricky” Dunn and wife Charlotte of Phenix City, AL, and Williams “Barry” Dunn and wife Beth of Smiths Station, AL, sisters, Barbara Slappey Brown and husband Billy of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Rick B. Dunn, Tracy L Dunn (Joey Norton), Keith Dunn (Christina), William Dunn (Cindy), Jeremy Dunn (Caroline), great grandchildren, Ashley Doster (Joey), Nick Dunn (Amanda), Kayla Smith, Chandler Dunn, Cameron Norton, Ryen Dunn, Cody Dunn, Tiler Dunn, Tucker Webb, and two great great grandchildren, Leslie Doster, and Ethan Doster, and host of nieces and nephews.
