Walter K. Underwood

Walter Ketten Underwood, 77, of Smiths Station, Alabama, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Monday June 7, 2021, with his family at his side.
Funeral services for Mr. Underwood will be held at 2:00 PM EST on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. Frances Corbin officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Underwood was born in Chicago, IL the son of Dewey Curtis Underwood and Maggie Long Underwood. He later moved to Phenix City, AL where he worked in construction and was also the former pastor of Bethel Assembly of God and Golden Acres Assembly of God Churches. Mr. Underwood loved to fish and perform mechanic work on vintage cars and tractors. He was a home builder for many years and also installed swimming pools. Mr. Underwood’s happiest moments were the ones spent with his family and church family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ruth Underwood.
Left to cherish his memory is one daughter Wendy Flowers of Phenix City, AL; two sons James Underwood of Phenix City, AL and Todd Underwood (Keisha) of Phenix City, AL; one brother Curtis Underwood (Abilene) of Tupelo, MS; six grandchildren Jamie Flowers, John Flowers, Madison Flowers, Chase Underwood, Brittany Underwood and Anna Rose Underwood and three great grandchildren.
