Wayne A. Stephens, age 73, resident of Cusseta, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Alabama. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, Georgia on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, 1 p.m. according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 10-11 a.m. DUE TO LOCAL, POST, AN STATE GUIDELINES REGARDING COVID-19, LIMITED ATTENDANCE WILL BE RESTRICTED AT THE FUNERAL HOME AND NO MORE THAN 25 CAN BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE CEMETERY.
Mr. Stephens, son of the late Albert Robert Stephens and Mary Ellen Stevenson Stephens, was born June 22, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was retired from the U.S. Navy where he served his country honorably for over 23 years. Mr. Stephens was a member of Valley Masonic Lodge #516, Valley, Alabama; was both a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason; and was a member of Alcazar Shriner’s Temple in Montgomery, Alabama. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was a man who had an amazing life, loved everyone, and was willing to help anyone. Mr. Stephens loved his family; enjoyed target shooting; watching movies; skyping with other family members and friends; and loved to eat out at restaurants with family and friends, particularly Cracker Barrel. The family remembers him as a man with an exceptionally big heart, one who loved serving his country while in the military – they wish he was still with them.
Besides his parents, Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his wife, Sachiko Stephens. He is survived by two sisters, Faye Dennis and her husband Ralph of Jasper, Georgia and Joan Rose and her husband Tom of Largo, Florida; one brother, C.W. “Buddy” Stephens of Largo, Florida; sister-in-law, Fumiyo K. Lyons of Shreveport, Louisiana; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
