Wendy Cornelius Northington

August 15, 1967 — November 3, 2024

Midland, GA

Mrs. Wendy Cornelius Northington, 57, of Midland, GA passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm EST, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Evangel Church, 5350 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA with Pastor Bud Rupel and Pastor Paul Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 pm, two hours prior to the service, at the church.

Wendy was born August 15, 1967 in Columbus, GA daughter of Sara McDowell Grimshaw and the late Ronald David Cornelius, Sr. She joined Synovus in 1996 and through the years has served as Director of Learning and Development, Director of Bank Sales Training, Director of the Fixed Annuity Program, Regional Sales Manager, Senior Manager of Bank Sales and Incentives and for the last six years, Senior Director of Administration and Strategy for the Wholesale Division. Wendy helped lead all aspects of the training and instructional design programs, as well as developing new training strategies that meet the business needs and enhance leaders. She was the recipient of the 2010 James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award. In 2014 Wendy created the Debra B. Stanford Award of Excellence for demonstration of care, commitment and dedication to the company and community. Despite her numerous professional accolades and involvement in shaping Synovus Bank, Wendy was most known for the genuine interest she took in people. The numbers of lives she has impacted at Synovus is truly her greatest professional accomplishment. She had a wide network of colleagues and friends and will be greatly missed by the organization.

Away from the office, Wendy’s focus was on her family, especially her two daughters. She was an amazing mother, who was involved in every facet of their lives. Above all, Wendy demonstrated great faith in her Lord and Savior, even during her illness. She has been a long-time member of Evangel Church and lived a life that should be a shining example for us all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Chuck Northington; two daughters, Paige Northington and Janie Northington; her mother, Sara McDowell Grimshaw and husband Jim; a sister, Lisa Key and husband Ricky; a brother, David Cornelius and wife LeLe; mother-in-law, Connie Simmons; father-in-law, Jerry Northington; several nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
