William Allen "W.A." Hobbs

February 18, 1932 — October 25, 2024

William Allen “W.A.” Hobbs, 92, of Columbus, GA passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 in the comfort of his home. A funeral service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Dylan Sanders and Bro. Alvin Peoples officiating. The interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

W.A. was born on February 18, 1932 in Macon County, GA to the late William Tommy Hobbs and Jewel Harris Hobbs. He was an extraordinary man who lived life to the fullest and always looked for opportunities to serve others. A jack of all trades, W.A. believed in having integrity and being a hard worker. He taught his children these values through multiple projects, farming, demolition and rebuilding. He educated his children in every area possible. Retiring after a 42-year career as an electrician with Alexander Electric Company, W.A. did not hesitate to instill his vast knowledge into his sons and grandchildren. Being a perfectionist when it came to his work, he would make them start over if what they were doing was not correct. When he said to do something, ya better do it!!!

A good provider and devoted family man, W.A. greatly enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At one time, he got into motorcycles with his boys but quickly learned it was not for him! He did, however, get his grandchildren on 3-wheelers. He was naturally a quiet person, but when he needed to, he would talk. If the children ditched work, you could hear him a mile away. W.A. was a fun person to be around and truly enjoyed people. He was a generous man and a dedicated Christian with a heart of gold. His neighbors would ask him to plow a garden and without hesitation, he would go and plow a garden. W.A. held a position on the Building Committee at the various churches he attended and worked with the Puppet Ministry at Miller Road Sanctified Church.

While W.A. will be greatly missed by his family, friends and Gentian Baptist Church family, this incredible man has without a doubt left a legacy that has touched the very hearts of countless people who were blessed to know and love him.

Other than his parents, W.A. is preceded in death by his sisters Laverne Muncey and Verlene Dean, and a son-in-law Cliff Turner. Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years Martha Hobbs; daughter Lynn Turner of Columbus, GA; sons Danny Hobbs of Columbus, GA and Leroy Hobbs (Teresa) of Hamilton, GA; grandchildren Matt Turner (Virginia), Nick Hobbs (Alexis), Luke Hobbs (Brooke), Michael Hobbs and Wynn Hobbs (Mattie); and great-grandchildren Kylie, Emilee, Isla, Brendan and Niko.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Columbus Hospice staff for the care given to W.A. and family during his time of need.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd, Columbus, GA 31909 or Gentian Baptist Church, 3853 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907.
