William C. (Bill) Brown, Jr.

William C. (Bill) Brown, Jr. was born on July 8, 1924 and was called home on January 11, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ila Ford and William Clyde Brown, Sr. and by his sisters Edith Preddy and Mary Ann Hall.  He was the devoted and loving husband of Vera Leslie Brown who also preceded him in death.  He is survived by his two daughters Kathy Jo Carden and Leslie Ann Brown, his three grandsons Scott Carden (Ashley), Chris (Christy) Carden, and Les Carden, and by his three great grandchildren Madeleine, Alan and Samuel.  Bill Brown was a graduate of Central High School where he played football, basketball and his favorite sport – baseball.  He enjoyed a brief professional baseball career and returned to his hometown of Phenix City, Alabama and eventually retired as Revenue Commissioner of Russell County, Alabama.  He was an avid fan of Braves baseball and Alabama football and a life long, active member of Lakewood Baptist Church (formerly West Side Baptist).  Bill was devoted to his family and friends and will be missed dearly by all who were privileged to know him.  If desired memorial gifts may be made to Columbus Hospice.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm EST Thursday, Janaury 14, 2016 at Lakewood Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the church.  Online condolences may be made at www.vancememorialchapel.net
