William Lorne Kokowicz, 86, of Salem, AL passed away early Thursday morning, January 9, 2020 at Parkwood Health Care in Phenix City, AL while surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Kokowicz was born January 4, 1934 in Detroit, MI, son of the late Edmund Kokowicz and Marian McDonald Kokowicz. He had worked as a truck driver in delivery sales most of his life and was retired. He served our country proudly and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and was the type of man that could fix or fabricate just about anything. He loved woodworking, and his military model airplanes. He had a very witty personality and loved giving people nicknames. Mr. Kokowicz was prideful in the way he kept his yard and enjoyed the peace that the outdoors brought him. He especially loved spending time with his wife Barbara and all of his family and grandchildren. He was a Lutheran by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Kokowicz, Edmund Kokowicz, Jr., and Charles Kokowicz.
He is survived by his beautiful bride of 63 years, Barbara Belle Haag Kokowicz, daughter, Cheryl Lang, son, Michael Kokowicz and fiancé, Julie; three sisters, Arlene Kmet, Sandy Phillips, and Gloria Kokowicz, one brother, Richard Kokowicz and wife Sharon, (3) grandchildren, Amy Layfield (Ricky), Sara Hale (Chris), and Joel Lang, (3) great grandchildren, Brock Hale, Marissa Mailhot, and Allyson Layfield, a very special niece, Destiny Hampton, friend and caregiver, Fay Whale, numerous other nieces and nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
A celebration of life remembrance service with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 pm EST on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the front administration building at 2:15 pm EST.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Parkwood Healthcare in Phenix City on behalf of Mrs. Barbara Kokowicz.
