William Horace Mathews, Jr., 79, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Sunday morning, June 16, 2024, at Columbus Piedmont Midtown in Columbus, GA
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Greg Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday in Phenix City.
Mr. Mathews was born on June 8, 1945, in Opp, AL, to the late William Horace Mathews, Sr. and Alma Lee Peavy Mathews. He served our country honorably as a Veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Mathews found great pride in his work as a self-employed painter and built a strong reputation within the community through his dedication to his craft. Known for his extensive network of contacts and his willingness to assist others, he will be remembered as a hardworking man always ready to lend a helping hand.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Florence McKenzie Mathews and two sisters, Cordellia Turvin and Edith Odom.
Survivors include his four sisters, Nadine Rehburg, Cubedine Dickerson and husband Jimmy, Jacquline Smith, and Betty Hall; numerous nieces, nephews, extended loving family members, and many caring friends.
