CW3 (Ret) William Elmer Stoops, 92, of Salem, AL died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Graveside Services with U. S. Army honors will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Lakeview Memory Gardens with Chaplain Jared Fregin officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Stoops was born December 28, 1931 in Fairview, PA son of the late William Stoops and Esther Kepple Stoops. He had retired from the U. S. Army after 20 years of service as a CW3 serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his service to our Country, Mr. Stoops joined Columbus Technical College as the Auto Mechanics Instructor. He was a gifted mechanic who could fix just about anything. Mr. Stoops still has a 1987 Pontiac Fiero, in near mint condition. Mr. Stoops was also a gifted carpenter with the skill to build virtually anything from wood. He loved to be outside working and improving his home place in the county. In fact, up until last year he was still running the weed eater and cleaning the area around the lake. His absence in our daily lives will forever change us, but we are forever grateful for all the good memories he has left us.
Mr. Stoops was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther Stoops; a son, Michael Stoops; brother,Ted Stoops and sisters, Evelyn Early, Lois Hilliard and Mary Ortz.
Survivors include the love of his life for over 69 years, Regina Unger Stoops, Salem, AL; a daughter, Patty Stoops Bozeman (Ronnie, Sr.), Lake Martin, AL; a brother, James Stoops (Donna). Franklin, PA; and numerous other family members and friends.
