Willie “Bascum” Dykes, 84, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:00 am EST Friday, January 5, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Justin Abercrombie officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Dykes was born November 17, 1933 in Louisville, AL to the late Willie Bonsell Dykes and Clara Leona Green Dykes. He had worked with Sunshine Biscuit Company in Columbus, GA and was the owner of Dykes and Son Roofing and Properties in Smiths Station, AL. He enjoyed fishing, eating, and visiting with family and friends “Down Home.” He was a member of Crawford Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elsie Faye Newsome Dykes, three sisters, and two brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Dykes Carroll and husband Bert, son, William “Dexter” Dykes and wife Linda, two sisters, Grace Dykes Stone, and Lila Dykes Powell, and one brother, Harry Donald Dykes and wife Glenda; (4) grandchildren, Julie Elizabeth Dykes Carroll, Tiffany Carroll Yarbrough (Josh), Brooke Dykes McManus (Stephen), and Jenna Dykes Griggs (Marty), (5) great grandchildren, Steele McManus, Kyler Griggs, Rylee Griggs, Elsie Yarbrough, and Thatcher Yarbrough, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
