Willie Mae Carson

Willie Mae Carson, 97, of Columbus, GA passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at The Orchard View Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Columbus, GA.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday, May 20, 2016 beginning at 3:00 P.M. EST with Pastor Corey Neal officiating.  There will be a private interment at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Columbus, GA.  The family will receive friends Friday, May 20, 2016 at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST.  

Willie Mae was born March 21, 1919 in Linden, LA to the parents of the late Will Crooks and Annie Mae Hartman.  She was a dedicated member of Greater Peace Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. She was retired as a domestic worker and she enjoyed gardening as well as visiting with the sick and shut-in’s.

Other than her parents, Willie Mae is predeceased by her husband, Rev. Arch Carson; a sister, Minnie Vaughn; and a brother, Ozell Hartman.

Survivors include her son, George Ray Johnson (Paulette) of Manchester, GA; a brother, Edward Williams of Sacramento, CA; nine grandchildren:  Craig Miles (Carlotta) of Crowley, LA, Tony Miles (Deborah) of Dallas, TX, Kim Slaughter of Texarkana, TX, Erika Porter of Columbus, GA and Margo Thompson (Chandler) of Atlanta, GA, Love Breaux (Eddie) of Goodyear, AZ, Georgette Johnson (DeSean Wilson) of Orange park, FL, Tabitha Whittlesley (Dexter) Columbus, GA and Juliette Johnson (Jimmy Murray) of Columbus, GA; fifteen great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
