Willie “WC” “Billy” Chester Nevels, 86, of Phenix City, AL passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Piedmont Regional Columbus Midtown in Columbus, GA.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, April 3, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Nevels was born August 9, 1931, son of the late Chester Nevels and Gertrude Christopher Nevels. He worked in the construction industry as a sheet metal fabricator most of his career. Mr. Nevels loved camping, fishing and the outdoors but most of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, he was an avid Smiths Station baseball fan, as well as, an Atlanta Braves and Alabama football fan.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Catherine Louella Wells Nevels; sisters, Dorothy Cheney, Vera Bishop, and Evelyn Afflek; grandsons, Tony Best, James Nevels, Jr. and Brent Nevels.
Mr. Nevels is survived by his children, Deborah Alligood of Phenix City, AL, Bill Nevels and wife Sandra of Smiths Station, AL, Wayne Nevels and wife Dean of Salem, AL, Jimmy Nevels of Phenix City, AL and Catherine Boswell and husband Dennis of Phenix City, AL; a brother, Jack Nevels and wife Glenda of Phenix City, AL; a sister-in-law, Barbara Wells of Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
