Alvin “Mac” Spencer McCune

SSG (Ret) Alvin “Mac” Spencer McCune, 64, of Phenix City, AL passed away while at Piedmont Midtown, Columbus on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Mr. McCune was born February 11, 1959 in Madrid, Spain but was raised in Manteca, CA with his late parents Willard McCune and Maria McCune. He joined the U. S. Army to see the world and retired after 20 years of service to our Country. SSG (Ret) McCune was a Desert Storm Veteran. Always a patriot, Mac was an active member of the VFW Post # 5228 in Smiths Station, AL, and a member of the “Black Hats” an organization organized to serve children in their time of need.

After his military career, he pursued his passion of building scale models of military vehicles, planes or just about any other scale model available. He had his own Face Book group, Mac’s Scale Model Group with over 900 followers and has his own YouTube Channel, Mac’s Model Corner, full of how-to videos. No detail was too small to notice and ensuring that it was accurate. He also loved coffee and was almost never without a hot cup in his hand. He even had a coffee maker in one of the service vans he used while working with ServiceMaster as a Maintenance Man.

We will always remember the example he set as a Patriot, husband, father and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Whitney Moore McCune, Phenix City, AL; two daughters, Alexis Underwood and Sydney McCune; one stepson, Jordan T. Wilson; two brothers, Michael McCune and Willard McCune; three granddaughters; his best friend, Bryan Sherman; numerous other family members and friends.
