Betty Greene, age 87, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Canterbury Nursing Facility. 

Graveside services are scheduled at Lakeview Memory Gardens on Thursday, May 28, 2020, 2 p.m. according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 12 noon till 1 p.m. 

Mrs. Greene, daughter of the late William Claude Sparks, Sr. and Beulah Mae Coleman Sparks, was born November 1, 1932 in Columbus, Georgia.  She was employed by the Muscogee County School District for over 35 years, where she faithfully worked as a Cafeteria Manager.  Mrs. Greene attended Auburn Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time sewing and tending to her garden.  The family remembers her as a lady who was always happy, a caring woman who never met a stranger.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. “Sam” Greene, Jr.; a daughter, Phyllis Staley; two sisters, Nancy Hurston and Mary Helen King; and two brothers, William C. Sparks, Jr. and Jesse George Loudermilk.  She is survived by a grandson, Jeffery Ty Staley; great-grand-daughter; seven nephews, David McBride and his wife Cindy of Smiths Station, Alabama, Robert Woods and his wife Vicki of Jacksonville, Florida, Jimmy Sparks and his wife Jackie from Alapaha, Georiga, Scottie Sparks and his wife Susan from Ray City, Georgia, Carl Sparks and his wife Elisa from Alapaha, Georgia, Danny Sparks and his wife Phyllis of Ray City, Georgia Mike Hodges and his wife Geraldine of Nicholson, Georgia; niece, Debbie Reynolds and her husband Mike of Ray City, Georgia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sparks Lopez; great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
