I was so very sorry to hear Mr. Layfield had passed. I knew him and Mrs. Layfield when they lived in Phenix City and were part of the Russell County Senior Task Force. I was sorry when they moved to the Auburn/Opelika area and missed speaking with them. They both are wonderful people. I pray Mr. Layfield rests in God’s sweet peace and comfort is granted to Mrs. Layfield and all who mourn.

My deepest condolences for the loss of Billy. I worked at the Ledger-Enquirer with Billy for many years. I was the first African American to work in his department and he welcomed me like family. He always spoke of his beloved Elaine and his family. He always invited me to his church and Sunday school class. It was evident he loved the Lord. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Rest on Billy.
