Christopher “Cason” Gilbert, 32, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 in Murfreesboro, TN. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, October 23, 2021 beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Deawn Richards officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, October 22, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks will be required.

Christopher “Cason” LeChasney Gilbert was born October 2, 1989 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia to Beverly Strozier Green and Charles E. Gilbert. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Wilbert H. Strozier, Sr. and Rosie Lee Strozier (Atlanta, GA) and paternal grandparents Charlie and Doris Gilbert (Colquitt, GA).

Christopher is survived by his parents Beverly Strozier Green (mother) of Columbus, GA and Charles E. (Gwen) Gilbert of Bainbridge, GA; two sisters, Senobia Nicole Gilbert and Tiarra Dorise Gilbert of Bainbridge, GA; Godmother Freddie Maria Coakley of Cairo, GA; a very special friend Amanda Traster of Virginia Beach, and a host of relatives and friends.

Christopher was very determined to have things his way from an early age through his teenage years. He was very active and wouldn’t adhere to the rules in daycare. His mother got several phone calls from each daycare requesting to just pick him up and do not return. When she working as the Behavioral Specialist for Liberty County School System (Bristol, Florida), she spotted Chris’ teacher dragging him up the sidewalk as he was struggling trying to get away from her. His mother just turned and went the other way.

Christopher attended school in three states (FL, AL, GA). Wynnton Elementary School referred him to the gifted program at St Elmo Elementary School. He attended Britt David Magnet Academy, Double Churches Middle School, and graduated from Northside High School in 2008. He went on to attend Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia majoring in Business Administration. During his time in Columbus, Christopher worked at Red Robin, Mellow Mushroom, and Chili’s. He relocated to Murfreesboro, Tennessee where he continued working in food services/hospitality at Chili’s and Parthenon Grille. He loved working in the hospitality business, meeting and greeting people with a smile and excellent service.

Christopher earned a black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 9 from James Green Taekwondo. He participated in many competitions where he received several 2nd and 3rd place trophies. During high school, he was a member of the chorus, and in middle school he played the flute. He joined The Church of Columbus in 1997 where he was captain of the Bible Quiz team, sang in the choir and was part of the youth group. He said the “Revelation Song” belonged to him and Caitlin; “No one else can sing it.”

Christopher was very respectful, loving and kind to his elders. He was very caring, loving, and friendly, and had many friends. He enjoyed spending time with friends to include slipping out his bedroom window to hangout with them. He also enjoyed walking, singing, smiling, reading, and laughing. He had a very distinct laugh and a big smile recognized by many; he never met a stranger. Chris was loved by so many people from all walks of life. During childhood he had a birthday party each year at Chuck-E-Cheese, his favorite place. He also loved Barney, Baby Bop, and Baby Simba. Celebrating his birthday was very important to Chris. He loved all types of music and sang every day. He also enjoyed traveling and taking pictures.
