Mrs. Edwards was born August 12, 1954 in Anniston, AL daughter of the late Elmer Austin and Willine Sarah Smith Austin. She was a proud graduate of Mississippi University of Women where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Edwards had retired after 24 years from the Lee County School System where she enjoyed helping young children to read better. She was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshiping. Mrs. Edwards had a “green thumb” and could grow just about anything. She followed Alabama Football often sharing game day fun with her family and friends. Traveling and seeing new things with her family was always an adventure for her; however, the sparkle in her eye were her grandchildren. She loved being Granny! We will miss her in our lives, but her love of family and faith will be our strength.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald Edwards, Smiths Station, AL; two daughters, Valerie Edwards Turpin (Dewayne), Doe Run, GA and Whitney Brown (Andre), Phenix City, AL; three sisters, Carolyn Martin (Ken), Donna Hughes (Jimmy) and Sharon Dangar; five special grandchildren, Jordyn Edwards, Sawyer Hurst, Camryn Brown, Ava Brown and Mila Grace Brown; several nieces, nephews and friends.
