Mr. Donald “Don” Dwayne Ritter, Jr., 40, of Columbus, GA passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in Columbus, GA.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus, GA with Rev. Deawn Richards officiating. The family has requested for those who are able to attend to wear white, Don’s favorite color. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Don was born on April 4, 1983 in Jacksonville, FL, son of Donald Dwayne Ritter, Sr. and Sandra Spurlock. He was an Admissions Coordinator for Teen Challenge, a job to which he was devoted. Don viewed this position as more of a ministry and found great joy assisting those who were needing help in taking that first step. Don was a faithful member of The Church of Columbus.
Don enjoyed climbing trees and being on the water. He was a gifted carpenter and dedicated arborist. Don’s greatest passion, however, was his family. He spent his life pouring into his children and has, without a doubt, left a legacy for them to embrace. Don spent his life giving to others. He will be greatly missed, but he will always be a true, Christian example for others to follow.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ella Grace Ann Ritter.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Ann Ritter of Columbus, GA; three daughters Gracie Ritter, Sophia Ritter, and Autumn Chancey; a son, Donald Brayden Ritter; father Donald Dwayne Ritter, Sr. (Linda) of Middleburg, FL; mother Sandra Mullis Spurlock (Tommy) of Blackshear, GA; sisters Dena Ann Blankenship (Kenny) of Callahan, FL, Megan Ritter of Middleburg, FL, and Rachel Lewis of Jacksonville, FL; brothers Tony Ritter (Sarah) of Columbus, GA and Steven Spurlock (Heather) of Jacksonville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; his extended family; and his work family at Teen Challenge.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to The Church of Columbus, 2001 Double Churches Rd, Columbus, GA 31909.
