Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This scripture brings me comfort when I lose loved ones hopefully it does the same for whomever is reading this .

God is for us a refuge and strength, a help that is readily to be found during distresses. Jehovah alone gave me the strength to endure, and the more I made his word my own, the stronger I became.

Last night a dear family friend passed away in her sleep, Dorothy Bullard. She was 102 years old. My grandmother’s best friend and my unofficial grandmother. She was such an important part of my upbringing. She along with my grandmother taught me how to sew and make my own clothes when I was twelve years old. My grandmother would convince me that I needed to go fishing at least once or twice a month with the two of them, not necessarily because they liked my company, but because they needed someone to take their fish off of their hook. Her stories ranged from bust your sides hysterical or extremely suspenseful. She helped me to overcome so many of my fears as a little girl. She encouraged me to be adventurous and don’t just sit on the sidelines. She would spend the night with Mama and me frequently because Daddy worked the third shift. We would sit up all night doing who knew what. One night they decided to upholster the couch. Neither one of them knew how, but Bullard could figure it out. . . . and they did, sort of.
I do believe if Mrs. Bullard had not been there to run interference for me with my somewhat fearful grandmother I probably would not have ever been able to date. She could always help Mama to see reason. Many times she had to help me see reason, too. I think most importantly she taught me by example how to walk with The Lord. She was an amazing woman of faith who loved Jesus with her whole heart. She would always be quick to tell that it was my grandmother that lead her to salvation. I don’t think I have or will ever know anyone like her. She truly was one of a kind. She was loved by all. She’s now in the presence of her savior.
