


Edith H. Austin, 95, of Columbus, GA, widow of John J. Austin, passed away Monday, March 06, 2017 at the Orchard View Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Columbus. A funeral service will be held at Second Baptist Church, 2800 2nd Ave, Columbus, GA on Thursday, March 09, 2017 beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST with the Reverend Mike Reeves officiating. The interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 08, 2017 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. EST.
Mrs. Austin was born February 28, 1922 in Bonifay, FL to the late B.H. Smith and Minnie M. Bradley Smith. She was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church in Columbus and loved her Church family. Mrs. Austin worked at Muscogee Mill, Kirven’s Department Store, West Central Care Facility and Lee’s Drug Store before her retirement. She loved to fish, cook and spend time with her family.
Other than her parents and loving husband, Mrs. Austin is predeceased by three sisters, one brother and one great granddaughter.
Left to cherish her memory are three children: Frances Austin McFarlin (Alton Deceased), Gene Austin, wife Lynne and Ralph Austin, wife Dianne; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; sixteen great, great grandchildren; one sister, Estelle Smith Carroll, husband Mack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and aunt. She will greatly be missed by all.
To the wonderful staff, nurses and technicians of Garden View, we give a heartfelt thank you for treating us all like family and taking such good care of Edith.
