Edward L. Richards, 73, of Columbus, Ga. passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Gentiva Hospice. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Ave, Columbus, GA 31906 on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST, with Pastor John Fugh, Jr. officiating. The interment will conclude the service at Park Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
Edward was born January 22, 1944 in Louisville, Ky. Edward was a member of American Veterans (AMVETS), Marine Corps League, Police Officer Association of Georgia (POAG), Masonic Lodge and Shriners Club. He was a member of the St. Paul UMC. Edward proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. After his service in the Marine Corps Edward retired as a police officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Other than his parents, Edward is predeceased by his first wife Martha Richards and his brother.
Survivors include his wife Denise Richards of Columbus, GA; One daughter, Patty Wolfe of GA; three sons, David Wolfe of GA., Jimmy Wolfe of TN and Jeff Wolfe of GA. Edward is also survived by three grandchildren, Ashtean Edenburn and husband Patrick, Kelsey Wolfe and Ciara Celorid. He also has two great-grandchildren, Paytean and Nathan.

I want to offer my condolences to the Richards family and friends. It is a painful thing to lose a love one in death, regardless of how long they have lived. Even Jesus wept when Lazarus died (John 11:35) and it pains our Creator, too. He calls death an enemy that will be removed forever__1 Corinthians 15:26 “the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.” He promised to remove all pain, suffering, and death so that his human family will be able to enjoy life as he purposed__ Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” He has promised to awaken those asleep in death in the memorial tombs so they can be reunited with their love ones to enjoy true peace and happiness (Isaiah 26:19). I hope these words give all of you comfort.
